Every July 1, communities across the country look forward to gathering with friends, families and neighbours for Canada Day events. While the City of Hamilton can't stage its traditional community gathering in Bayfront Park, it has planned several family-friendly initiatives to help connect Hamiltonians on Canada Day 2020.
On July 1, 2020, join us for Canada Day 2020 presented by RBC, a one-hour broadcast special airing at 7pm on CHCH and chch.com. Hosted by CHCH anchor and reporter Nicole Martin, the show will be a Canada Day to remember, featuring talented local artists, entertainers and personalities.
The broadcast, produced by Sonic Unyon Records, will showcase top Hamilton musical artists, including JUNO-winning rock band The Dirty Nil, Hall of Fame soul artist John Ellison (writer of the hit “Some Kind of Wonderful”), international award-winning Hamilton Children’s Choir, the world-renowned Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra Brass Quintet, JUNO award-winning R&B/blues artist Harrison Kennedy, JUNO- and Polaris-nominated singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot, empowering R&B singer Queen Cee, plus local icon and JUNO-winning roots songwriting legend Tom Wilson.
Canada Day is also an all-day experience!
Show your spirit by participating in the citywide Canada Day Door Decorating Challenge. Be creative! Submit a photo of your Canada-themed decorated door using #HamOntCanadaDay before 5pm on July 1 for a chance to receive an RBC prize pack. Keep your eye on the sky as Historic aircraft from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum will be doing a Canada Day flyover, weather dependent.
Finally, don’t forget to use #HamOntCanadaDay to tag your Canada Day posts and follow along with the City's Canada Day initiatives online by using the hashtag!
“We are a country that prides itself on inclusion and kindness and thrives on its diversity,” says Hamnilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger. “This year, due to the pandemic, coming together is going to be a little different, but everyone can still come together, while remaining safely apart, to celebrate our beautiful, multicultural country. Canada Day presented by RBC promises to be an exciting, virtual and interactive day for all to enjoy. I look forward to seeing Hamiltonians share their pride this Canada Day!”
Thank you to community partner RBC for sponsoring Canada Day for a sixth year.
“RBC is thrilled to be the presenting partner of this year’s virtual Canada Day,” says Laurie Davidson, Regional Vice-President, Hamilton Brantford Norfolk. “Normally we look forward to gathering together as a community to show our pride for Canada and for the City of Hamilton and although things look very different this year, the broadcast and activities enable us to celebrate together in new ways in a time when connections are needed now more than ever.”
