Hamilton’s favourite urban festival — Supercrawl (September 11-13, 2015) — has established itself as a must-see event on the country’s festival circuit, and has been recognized as one of the Top 100 festivals and events in the province by Festivals & Events Ontario. A big part of that winning appeal is the festival’s attention to programming created with the intent of entertaining and engaging parents, children and creative spirits of all ages.

Made possible by ArcelorMittal Dofasco, the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Family Zone features engaging family-friendly programming that showcases Hamilton’s abundant creative talent and wealth of community cultural organizations. Its activity spans two days, Saturday, September 12, 2015 and Sunday, September 13, 2015, on York Boulevard between James and Park Streets. Programming will run from noon daily and will wrap up shortly after the stage performances conclude at 6pm.

A perennial favourite of Supercrawl audiences, Circus Orange returns to downtown Hamilton for the fourth straight year as part of Supercrawl 2015 (September 11-13, 2015). Returning audiences will doubtless prove beyond doubt that they are as big of a festival draw as most of Supercrawl’s headlining performers.

Circus Orange’s conceptual performances have been a consistent Supercrawl highlight since they first brought their production spectacular to Supercrawl. A breathtaking blend of pyrotechnic punch, eye-popping special effects, graceful aerial artistry and gymnastic stunt work, the Hamilton-based performance company marries these elements into a singular entertainment experience that stops people in their tracks.

In 2012, it was their high-altitude aerialist production Pyro Mobile. In 2013, Circus Orange featured a pedal-powered Pyro Copter, a flying opera singer with a dramatic pyro waterfall, a flamethrower trampoline act, and a crane-based aerial silks show for good measure. Last year, it was the massive…

Entering its seventh season, Supercrawl (September 11-13, 2015) continues to inspire and delight lovers of arts and culture with the announcement of the exhibiting artists for this year’s urban arts and music festival. Supercrawl has always aimed to celebrate the freedom found on James Street North’s monthly Art Crawl, which has historically stepped outside of traditional gallery space and exhibited artwork that challenges expectations, generates curiosity about contemporary art and offers audiences entry to a spectrum of ideas. In 2015, Supercrawl builds on that tradition with a slate of festival programming that will challenge, confound and delight audiences. An eclectic array of visiting contemporary artists from across Canada will be among those showcased during this year’s festival.

Multidisciplinary Montreal artist Coral Short believes that interactivity is crucial within her practice as it breaks down barriers between artist and audience. She will call on her background in fibres…

Supercrawl’s fashion showcases have been one of the event’s breakout successes in recent years, and inspired a larger production and dedicated Supercrawl Fashion Zone at last year’s festival. Crowds flocked to the zone to enjoy a steady stream of runway showcases and talks.

This September, the Supercrawl Fashion Zone relocates to James between Barton and Murray, where enhanced production infrastructure will allow for a big-canvas makeover of the zone and three days of fashion — Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13 — on the Mohawk College Fashion Stage, with programming curated by the Supercrawl Fashion Committee.

Audiences can expect to find a host of independent designers, speakers and vendors on a block dedicated to highlighting independent fashion. Featured designers will include Blackbird Studios, Designs by Mallory, Eye of Faith, Gattina, Inna, Lissa Hill Leather, Plastik Wrap, Vespidame and…
