REMEMBERING LEE PENROSE

Lee Penrose (March 19, 1981-July 18, 2023) was the firecracker personality behind the drum kit for math rockers Kitchens & Bathrooms, whose brief time on Sonic Unyon blazed brightly, captured in 2002’s Utter a Sound and 2003 swan song Vehicles Beyond. Lee was a force of nature onstage and off, living with integrity, empathy, honesty, and a cutting sense of humour. In recent years, those qualities were on display in his work as activist videographer Penny O'Radical, through video shorts that aimed to build awareness of and expand compassion toward those on society’s margins, lending insight from his struggles along those same edges. Lee extended support and helped build community in an unforgiving world. He will be remembered for the rich spectrum of his life and his authentic connections to so many. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and musical peers. Lee was an original, and he is gone too soon.
